Location: Indian Cemetery, Hilbert, Stockbridge
County: Calumet County

This Stockbridge-Munsee Indian Cemetery was established in 1834, just after the tribe relocated to Stockbridge. Those laid to rest here suffered a series of displacements before arriving in Calumet County. The Stockbridge tribe moved from Massachusetts to New York, Indiana, Kaukauna, and finally to Stockbridge. The Munsee tribe endured a similar journey, beginning in Delaware. It is also the final resting place of Electa Quinney (1798-1885) who was a Mohican and member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Community.  She taught at Wisconsin’s first public school which was located in Kaukauna and is considered to be the first woman to teach in Wisconsin.
